Flight via Moscow on March 2.
You will visit the most beautiful and secluded parts of Baikal, discover ice caves, try the local cuisine and learn about ancient traditions.
We arrive at Irkutsk in the early morning. After breakfast, we stroll around the most beautiful and colourful district of the city before we leave for the train station. We board the famous Trans-Siberian Railway, which shows us around the outermost edge of Lake Baikal. The journey takes about 4 hours. In the evening we reach a village on the border between the Republic of Buryatia and the Irkutsk region, where we are awaited by a delicious dinner and a Russian sauna.
In the morning, we get on a hovercraft and cross Lake Baikal. Now and then we stop in beautiful places, and a few hours later we reach the village Listvyanka. We then get on a bus which takes us to the open-air museum “Talzy” with wooden buildings from the 18th century. After arriving at the hotel, we rest and prepare for the next eventful day. You can visit the Baikal Museum and experience Siberian fish and the famous Baikal seals! In the evening, you can relax in a sauna which stands directly on the ice of Lake Baikal and swim in the ice-hole.
Today we get to know the Baikal even more by exploring its vast expanses with snowmobiles. We will glance at the edge of the ice at the source of the Angaras, see mountain ranges with snow-capped peaks and take a walk along the famous Circum-Baikal Railway. For lunch, we can look forward to Lake Baikal delicacies: white fish sagudaj, omul caviar and many more Siberian specialties. In the evening, we get on a mountain and look at the majestic sunset over the Baikal.
In the morning we get picked up by a hovercraft, and we float above the crystal-clear ice for 100 km. We take stops in breath-taking locations, admire many types of ice, billions of bubbles and miles of crackly patterns formed on the Baikal ice. After a picnic in the middle of the ice, we get on jeeps and drive to the Tasheran steppe. We watch the sunset from Tan-Han Mountain before reaching the famous island of Olkhon in the evening.
On this day we get up early to gaze at the dawn above the sacred Shaman rock. After breakfast, a whole day on the ice of the Baikal and its infinite beauty awaits us. We will descend into deep caves and take photos of the ice banks. We visit the uninhabited island of Ogoi, climb a mountain and look at the Buddhist “pillar of enlightenment”. We try Siberian whitefish, conquer the cold with home-made local liquor, skate on the ice or try out some tubing. Look forward to an ice buggy race! We have a picnic on the ice and then take a spin on the world’s biggest ice rink. In the evening, we get back to Irkutsk again and rest before the flight.
We’re flying home … delighted and inspired!
